Information for new vocational students

Welcome to Omnia, our new vocational student! To ensure everything goes smoothly on your first day of studies, please familiarize yourself with the instructions and links provided on the page.

Welcome to study at Omnia! On this page, you'll find important information and links that you should know a little about before the start of your studies and during the first few weeks.

Accepting a study place

Whether you apply in a joint application or through a continuous application, remember to accept your study place according to the instruction provided to you.

Start Date of Studies

  • Studies of new vocational students in day classes begins on August 7, 2024.
  •  The academic year for TUVA students starts on August 8, 2024.
  • The start date for evening classes in vocational basic degree programs will be announced to students separately.

Omnia user ID activation

You will receive your username, i.e., student number, and a temporary password via email closer to the start of your studies. Once you have received the email, you can activate your account and create your password at oma.omnia.fi. Please read the instructions for activating your username and its usage (it.omnia.fi).

Omnia utilizes multi-factor authentication. You will get access to multi-factor authentication after activating your account. Please read the instructions for using multi-factor authentication at (it.omnia.fi).

Parents or guardians can activate their own accounts only after the student has activated theirs. Instructions for activating a guardian's Wilma account (it.omnia.fi). 

Forms to fill out

Fill out the following in Wilma before the start of your studies:

  • Student basic information form and attachments. You can find the form on Wilma's Forms page.
  • Study readiness identification form. The information on the form is used for planning guidance and support together with you, your guardian, your responsible teacher, and if necessary, a special education teacher and a study counselor. Fill out the form together with your guardian. You can find the form on Wilma's Guidance and Support page.

Beginning of studies

You've received an email regarding the start of your studies. At the beginning of your studies, a responsible teacher will be assigned to you. The responsible teacher will introduce you to the practices and studies of the institution. You can find your schedule on Wilma once the studies have begun.

Please remember to bring your identification card and keep it with you at the beginning of your studies. It will be needed, among other things, for creating your personal study plan and for the distribution of computers.

Valid documents for proving your identity include
  • Passport
  • Driver's license
  • Mobile driver's license
  • National identity card issued by police authorities
  • Photo ID issued by KELA (Social Insurance Institution of Finland)
  • Alien's passport
  • Diplomatic passport or refugee travel document.

Planning and personalisation of studies

You will plan your personalized learning path together with your responsible teacher. Your plan will be documented in the Personal Competence Development Plan (PCDP, HOKS in finnish).

Please bring the following with you to the PCDP discussion:

  1. A valid photo ID.
  2. If you have previous studies, check your own study path to ensure that your previous study achievements are there, or bring the original certificates with you. Instructions for sharing your own study achievements from your study path in Finnish (it.omnia.fi).
  3. If you have relevant work experience in the field, bring your work certificates.
